Kuopio is a center of significant research, development, and business activity in the wellness and pharmaceutical industries, as well as in the health sector, aimed at addressing global health and wellness challenges.
At the heart of the health sector is Kuopio Health, an open innovation ecosystem. Kuopio hosts more than 5,000 health sector jobs and over 1,000 health-related companies across the region. The university campus is located near Kuopio’s city center in Savilahti by Lake Kallavesi, where three educational institutions (UEF, Savonia, Sakky) provide a campus for approximately 18,000 degree and postgraduate students.
Thanks to its world-class research and expertise, Kuopio is one of Finland’s most prominent health sector hubs on a global scale. The city is recognized for its high-level international research in cardiovascular, metabolic, and neurological diseases, as well as musculoskeletal disorders.
The University of Eastern Finland is the largest medical and pharmaceutical educator in Finland and coordinates the National Neurocenter in Kuopio, a collaborative network for neuroscience research and development in Finland. The company also produces market insights, monitors tourism development, and facilitates partnerships with tour operators.
Additionally, Kuopio-Tahko Marketing Ltd promotes the area through joint marketing efforts, supported by numerous local companies as shareholders and members. In Upper Savo, there is also an active tourism network.
