A City of history, innovation, and nature

Kuopio has been shaped by some of Finland’s most influential figures, including writer Minna Canth and philosopher and statesman J. V. Snellman, who played a key role in the development of Finnish national identity and language. Today, Kuopio is known as an epicenter of education, culture, and innovation. It is also widely regarded as Finland’s second most attractive city and ranks first in safety.

Located in the heart of the Finnish Lakeland, Kuopio offers stunning natural surroundings year-round. Winters attract outdoor enthusiasts with events such as the Finland Ice Marathon on frozen Lake Kallavesi and up to 600 km of cross-country skiing tracks. In summer, the lakes provide opportunities for boating, swimming, and a wide range of water sports.
