Talent Talks: Parastoo Jalili
Listen to Parastoo’s interview (on Savon Aallot, April 1, 2026)
Business Kuopio’s Business Advisor, Parastoo Jalili, moved to Finland—to Kuopio—five years ago from the metropolis of Tehran, Iran. She arrived in September, and nature immediately captivated her. Kuopio also gave her the feeling that it could become her second home.
Finland was not originally part of Parastoo’s plans, but encouraged by her brother, she decided to apply to study for a new degree in the Nordic countries as well. She was awarded a scholarship from the University of Eastern Finland, which ultimately determined her decision. Parastoo settled well into the new, small Savonian city, and she emphasizes the importance of different communities—both at work and in her free time—in the integration process.
Parastoo believes in collaboration and working together. Through regional cooperation, local expertise can be shared and strengthened across other fields as well. Networking also increases opportunities: ideas can be exchanged, and together more impactful actions can be achieved—for example, developing the startup ecosystem in Eastern Finland, improving business growth services, and organizing related events.
Parastoo recognizes the challenges faced by international professionals. The current economic situation sets its own limitations, but companies should also work towards building more diverse work communities and cultures. To retain international talent in the region, it is essential to provide them with job and internship opportunities.
