Multiculturalism strengthens FinVector’s competitiveness

FinVector is a Kuopio-based biopharmaceutical company whose operations are built on top-level expertise, international collaboration, and a strong corporate culture. HR Director Tiina Bies sees multiculturalism not only as a daily asset but also as a strategic competitive factor that supports growth, innovation, and internationalization.

Currently, 25% of FinVector’s personnel are international experts. The working language of a community representing more than 50 nationalities is English. For the company, multiculturalism is not a separate theme but an integral part of everyday operations and decision-making.

“We recruit international experts primarily because the required expertise is not sufficiently available in Finland. This is a key way for us to ensure access to talent and to support the future development of our business,” Bies explains.

At FinVector, multiculturalism becomes tangible especially in teamwork and interaction.

“Diversity and multiculturalism are most visible in our day-to-day collaboration. People from different backgrounds bring multiple perspectives into discussions, enriching decision-making and problem-solving,” she says.

At the same time, inclusive leadership and clear communication play a central role in ensuring that everyone can participate and be heard.

Organizational culture evolves with international talent

With the arrival of international experts, FinVector’s organizational culture has become more open and interactive. Bies emphasizes that this has also required the deliberate development of leadership practices:

“We have learned to value different ways of working and perspectives, and leadership has increasingly emphasized clarity, transparency, and inclusiveness.”

At the same time, the company consciously invests in an open and welcoming culture, as well as practices that enable international experts to integrate smoothly into both their work and life in Kuopio.

Recruitment emphasizes competence and attitude

FinVector operates in a demanding and highly regulated field within a global operating environment. Customers, partners, and authorities come from all over the world. For FinVector, recruiting international experts is above all a way to secure critical expertise in this environment.

The company combines the international talent pool already residing in Finland with targeted international recruitment. Bies stresses that success does not happen by chance:

“Key factors in successful recruitment have been a clear employer brand, a smooth recruitment process, and support for relocation and everyday arrangements.”

At FinVector, multiculturalism is seen as a long-term investment.

“In the future, we see diversity as a key competitive factor—it supports innovation, helps attract talent, and enables growth into new markets,” Bies concludes.

Bies also encourages other companies to take bold steps forward:

“The most important thing is an open mindset and a willingness to learn. Invest in good onboarding, clear communication, and support for supervisors. Diversity is not just an HR topic—it is an opportunity for business development.”
